28 Weeks Pregnant and Starving to Death!

Yes...Starving! I can't seem to eat enough to keep these little guys happy:) I wake up every night between 2 and 5am because my stomach won't let me get back to sleep until I eat a snack. And by snack I actually mean a complete meal. Granola bars at the bedside just don't cut it. I need a bowl of cereal, some fruit and then some walnuts to hold me over the next few hours. It's because we are growing two men in there. Little girls wouldn't eat this much, I'm sure!

All the eating is paying off though. My doctor's visit and ultrasound appointment a couple of weeks ago showed that Baby A (the first baby to be delivered) is 2lbs 5oz and Baby B is 2lbs even. They are both growing really well, and one isn't growing faster than the other. Now, I don't need ultrasounds every other week to monitor their growth but only every three weeks because they are doing so well.

Twins have to be closely monitored with frequent ultrasounds to watch for something called twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome. It's when one of the babies is getting most of the nutrients--taking nutrients from the other, and growing at a faster rate. When this happens, the "donor baby" (the one losing all the nutrients) can quickly become malnourished and consequently not get vital nutrients needed for development. This syndrome doesn't happen in all types of twins, but can happen in the type of twins we are having. Our twins are categorized as monozygotic twins, meaning they sharing one placenta. Since there is a sharing of nutrients, rather than each having their own placenta (or source) of nutrition, one can potentially take more than the other.

We are so thankful, that so far there are no signs of that. They are both sharing very well:)

Aside from eating all the time, I feel really blessed to be about the size of a woman with a singleton pregnancy entering her last month, and still don't have many of those "last month" symptoms. God continues to bless both me and Samuel in so many ways through this pregnancy.

Did I mention that I cried for over an hour after getting my hair trimmed yesterday? Not a new cut. just a simple trim that I didn't like. Another one of those pregnancy symptoms that has creeped up on me over the past couple of weeks ha ha!

28 weeks! So long 2nd trimester!
