Today was the big 22 week ultrasound. The one that everyone is excited about because they get to find out the gender of their little one....everyone, that is, except Pediatric Nurses. It isn't that Peds Nurses aren't looking forward to discovering what they are going to have, it is everything else about the ultrasound that frightens them (when I say "them", I mean "me" as well). Years of working in the acute care hospital setting caring for the 1% of children with severe congenital problems has us worried sick as the ultrasound tech goes through each system of the little one's body. Are there four chambers in the heart? Is there cleft palate? Are the ventricles in the brain too big or too small? Are the intestines inside or outside the body? All of these are some of the questions that we needs answered before we can start to really enjoy seeing the baby on the screen.
Well, I had that times TWO today! Although I had resolved in my heart several months ago it is God who is the giver of life, and HE is the one that would cause our twins to grow and develop, I was still nervous prior to the appointment. After about forty five minutes looking over "Baby A", we still had a whole other little body to go through--system by system. The good news is that after one and a half hours of ultrasounding, both babies checked out with flying colors!
And lastly, other than finding out that they are healthy, the most exciting news is that we are having two BOYS! Samuel is very proud :) And I look forward to being entertained constantly by the three men in my life. God is good.
