To Buy Organic or Not to Buy Organic...

Many of us are becoming much more health conscious these days, and buying more organic food has become a direct result of that. Although there are many great benefits to buying food without all the pesticides and toxins in them, let's face it--it can get pretty expensive.  The fact is that not ALL foods necessarily need to be bought organic. So for those of you wanting to save money where you can....here are two lists, the Dirty Dozen and the Clean Fifteen. The produce on the Dirty Dozen List has been proven to have significantly high amounts of pesticides, so if you eat organic-only produce from this list, you lower your pesticide and toxin intake considerably. The Clean Fifteen List, on the other hand, is produce that does not have high pesticide/toxin levels, even if it isn't "organic."

THE DIRTY DOZEN:
1. APPLES
2. CELERY
3. CHERRY TOMATOES
4. CUCUMBERS
5. GRAPES
6. HOT PEPPERS
7. IMPORTED NECTARINES
8. PEACHES
9. SPINACH
10. STRAWBERRIES
11. SWEET BELL PEPPERS
12. POTATOES
13. KALE*
14. SUMMER SQUASH*

*Did not meet Dirty Dozen List criteria, but commonly have significant amount of pesticides/toxins

THE CLEAN FIFTEEN:

2. AVOCADOS
3. CABBAGE
4. CANTALOUPE
5. SWEET CORN
6. EGGPLANT
7. GRAPEFRUIT
8. KIWI
9. MANGOS
10. MUSHROOMS
11. ONIONS
12. PAPAYA
13. PINEAPPLES
14. FROZEN SWEET PEAS
15. SWEET POTATOES
